Here at Eastland Generation, we’re renewable energy specialists. We manage geothermal power plants in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, a hydro scheme in Hawke’s Bay and a utility scale solar farm in Tairāwhiti, with more exciting projects in the pipeline.
We’re offering a $5,000 scholarship to support a local engineering or science student during their 2026 academic year. In addition, we may provide a paid internship over summer 2026/2027, based at our geothermal stations in Kawerau.
To be eligible for a scholarship, you must be:
• Enrolled as an engineering tertiary student, or a high school graduate preparing to start university in 2026.
• Pursuing a relevant engineering or science degree and have a keen interest in renewable energy and the geothermal industry.
• Come from Tairāwhiti or the Eastern Bay of Plenty areas.
• Be a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident.
Candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
• Academic excellence.
• Demonstrated character and leadership qualities.
• Involvement in the community.
• Potential to make a significant contribution to the engineering or science industry in New Zealand.
Your application should include the following:
• A well-structured CV highlighting your academic and extracurricular achievements.
• Transcript or summary of your educational results.
• Written references that provide insights into your character and potential.
• A one-page budget plan demonstrating your financial responsibility and how you would use the scholarship.
• A 350-500 word application essay or 3–5 minute explaining your passion for engineering or science and the geothermal industry, and how this scholarship will help you achieve your goals.
Key Dates
• Application deadline: October 31, 2025
• Interviews with shortlisted candidates will take place in late November and early December.
• Scholarship recipient/s will be announced in December.
