Next Gen Renewable Energy Scholarship 2027

Are you a local student with a passion for engineering, science, business or finance and an interest in renewable energy? This Eastland Generation scholarship provides financial support to help you pursue your studies and build a rewarding career in New Zealand's renewable energy industry. Eastland Generation manage geothermal power plants in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, a hydro scheme in Hawke’s Bay and a utility-scale solar farm in Tairawhiti, with further exciting projects in development.


For the 2027 academic year, we are expanding our scholarship to include students studying business and finance, alongside engineering and science. A scholarship of $5,000 is available to an eligible local student.
The successful applicant may also be offered paid summer work with Eastland Generation during the 2027/2028 holiday period. Any work opportunity will depend on business requirements and suitable work being available.

 

Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must:
• Be enrolled in, or intending to enrol in, a tertiary qualification in engineering, science, business or finance, including
high school graduates commencing university study in the upcoming academic year.
• Have a genuine interest in renewable energy and the contribution their chosen field can make to the industry.
• Come from the Kawerau, Eastern Bay of Plenty, Tairawhiti or Wairoa areas.
• Be a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident.
Candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
• Academic excellence.
• Demonstrated character and leadership qualities.
• Involvement in the community.
• Potential to make a significant contribution to the renewable energy industry in New Zealand.

Key dates
• Application deadline 8 November 2026.
• Interviews with shortlisted candidates will take place in early December 2026.
• Scholarship recipients will be announced in December.

Your application should include the following:
• A well-structured CV highlighting your academic and extracurricular achievements.
• Transcript or summary of your educational results.
• Written references that provide insights into your character and potential.
• A one-page budget plan demonstrating your financial responsibility and how you would use the scholarship.
• A 350-500 word application essay or a 3-5 minute video, explaining your passion for your chosen degree in the applicable discipline and the geothermal industry and how this scholarship will help you achieve your goals.

Scholarship regulations: 1. Eastland Generation reserves the right to suspend or terminate a scholarship if it receives an unsatisfactory report on the progress of a student. 2. Eastland Generation is not obligated to offer a scholarship if, in any year, there is no candidate of sufficient merit. 3. Scholarship recipient/s will take part in publicity activities as required by Eastland Generation. 4. Eastland Generation reserves the right to amend these conditions at any time.
